NEPR, the Energy Board, ordered LUMA Energy and Genera PR to respond by Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 12:00 p.m. to an information request covering fuel and energy purchase costs, system operation, and the factors proposed for the October-December 2026 period.[1] The board's Resolution and Order requires the two companies to detail each component contributing to the six-cent increase, the amount each contributes, why those costs are rising, and any significant changes from the prior quarter.[3] Jean Peña Payano, secretary of Public Affairs at La Fortaleza, said the Energy Board, not La Fortaleza, is responsible for evaluating rate increase requests from LUMA.[2] In a press conference, he said the Government opposes eliminating the 'crudita' oil excise tax at this time because no revenue source has been identified to replace the collections the General Fund receives.[4] Taken together, the two statements suggest La Fortaleza is deferring on rates while holding the line on the excise tax.
