The Asociación de Economistas de Puerto Rico put a number on how its members grade the Fiscal Oversight Board's first decade - and the mark is failing. Sixty percent of the economists surveyed rated the board's 10-year performance unfavorably, and seven in 10 questioned its contribution to economic growth.[1][2] The board has spent those 10 years as the entity responsible for straightening out Puerto Rico's public finances.[3] The survey's verdict reaches beyond growth: most of the surveyed economists said the board has not helped reduce government corruption, and most said it has not created the conditions to prevent a new insolvency.[4][5] The results were presented by the association as part of its previously announced evaluation of the oversight board created under the PROMESA Act.[6][7]
