The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico Law School marked 65 years on Friday 6 November[1], celebrating a school founded in 1961 by Monsignor Fremiot Torres Oliver with a mission to prepare jurists oriented toward social justice and human dignity.[2][3][4] The school opened with inaugural events on 23 August 1961, and its Revista de Derecho Puertorriqueño, created that same year, remains its official publication.[5][6][7]
Its first class graduated on 22 May 1964: 31 students, 24 men and 7 women, all of whom passed bar validation.[8][9][10] The American Bar Association granted the young school provisional approval in February 1967 and full accreditation in August 1972.[11][12] In 1975 it established a Legal Aid Clinic, extending its work from classrooms into underserved communities across the island's southern region - a service the school has sustained for five decades.[13] Its Centro de Estudios Jurídicos Avanzados graduate program opened on 19 August 1983, broadening the school's reach beyond the entry degree.[14]
