A magnitude 3.7 earthquake struck in the Anegada Passage on Friday, August 21, 2026, with its center about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.[1] The quake was centered roughly 133 kilometers (82 miles) from Culebra, 146 kilometers (91 miles) from Fajardo on Puerto Rico's main island, and about 154 kilometers (96 miles) from Vieques - far enough that no shaking was reported on the island, and no tsunami advisory was issued.[1] The event occurred at 18 kilometers depth in the same seismic corridor that produces most of the region's activity between the Anegada Passage and the Puerto Rico Trench, where the North American plate slides past the Caribbean plate.[1]
