Former Puerto Rican legislator Hiram Meléndez Rivera has died

PIP secretary general Juan Dalmau confirmed on 27 October 2026 that former legislator Hiram Meléndez Rivera had died. [1] After leaving ACAA, Hiram Meléndez Rivera was charged with public fund embezzlement and corporate credit card misuse. [2] Hiram Meléndez Rivera was previously a member of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) and led the ACAA agency during the administration of former governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá. [3][9] Hiram Meléndez Rivera served in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives for the PIP from 1988 to 1992. [4] Juan Dalmau Ramírez issued an official written statement on behalf of PIP offering condolences to the family and loved ones of Hiram Meléndez Rivera. [5] As of 28 October 2026, no cause of death or funeral arrangements for Hiram Meléndez have been announced.
