LUMA Energy has warned that power outages may occur in Puerto Rico due to a generation deficiency caused by the exit of Unit 5 at the Costa Sur Central.[1] Genera PR confirmed the 410 megawatt unit was taken offline for unavoidable repairs.[2] LUMA has stated the shutdown has placed the electrical system at a narrow reserve level. This increases risk of energy insufficiency during high demand periods, or if additional unplanned events occur.[3]
