Governor Jenniffer Gonzalez Colon announced on Sunday, Oct. 25, that the Fiscal Oversight Board approved $20 million for the Ama de Llaves home assistance program.[1] The funds, part of the certified fiscal 2027 budget, pay for home assistance, nutrition, hygiene and health-support services delivered through 65 municipalities.[2][3] The board approved the distribution on Oct. 19, and no participating municipality will receive less than it got in fiscal 2026.[4][5] The split matters for the towns: $15 million follows the allocation criteria used in fiscal 2025 and 2026, while $5 million guarantees a minimum level of support for participating municipalities.[6][7] The program serves residents over 65 and disabled people with hygiene help, meal preparation, housework and health support; a July expansion announced by Gonzalez raised the program's budget from $15 million to $20 million and its beneficiaries from 3,000 to 4,000.[8][9][10][11]
