Robert F. Mujica, executive director of la Junta, said on Tuesday that Governor Jenniffer González's proposed IVU exemption for prepared food addresses only the symptoms, not the root causes, of high costs.[1] The remark is the board's first public read on the measure González announced on October 23, a temporary suspension of the IVU sales tax on prepared food for November and December 2026.[2] The exemption still needs the board's approval to take effect. Mujica did not reject the proposal outright in the quoted statement, and no fact here records a board vote. His framing points to a gap the governor has not closed on the wider cost question. On October 1, La Fortaleza public affairs secretary Jean Peña Payano said la crudita would remain in place for budgetary reasons, with no replacement revenue identified.[3] Peña Payano has also said the government is not currently considering the Emergency Fund for electricity tariff relief.[4] The next move belongs to la Junta, which must sign off before the two-month exemption can reach consumers.[5]
