Puerto Rico will host Miss Universe 2026, the 75th edition of the pageant, at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan. Governor Jenniffer González Colón made the announcement official at a press conference on September 23, 2025.[^1]

Among the contestants already confirmed is Tharina Botes, who will carry Thailand's banner in November 2026.[^2] Botes is not new to Puerto Rico - she competed in Miss World 2021 on the island, though she did not advance to the final.[^3]

The read here is that the 75th edition landing at the Choliseo is the kind of anchor event San Juan competes hard to win, and it puts Puerto Rico in front of a global television audience at a moment when a separate financial document on record flags outmigration and a declining population as active risks to the island's outlook.[^4] Whether an event of this scale shifts any of those numbers is a different question, and the available facts do not answer it - but the timing, at minimum, is not lost on anybody who has followed the population debate.
