About 1,000 people walked through the Río Piedras urban center on Saturday for the 8th annual Caminata Puerto Rico ante el Cambio Climático, the climate march organized by El Puente Puerto Rico.[1] The group had set the date for 24 October in the Río Piedras urban center ahead of the event.[2] Federico Cintrón Moscoso, director of El Puente Puerto Rico, said public awareness of climate has grown on the island even as government climate policy has gone backward.[3] Cintrón Moscoso's reading points to a gap between what people on the street understand and what the government does about it. The march gives a count to the first half of that: 1,000 walkers in Río Piedras, eight years running.
