The Puerto Rico Energy Bureau approved on September 30 a record residential electricity rate of 33.86 cents per kWh, effective in October, El Nuevo Día reports.[1]
The rate decision lands as pressure builds on the island's power supply. El Nuevo Día reports that Christian Delgado Ortiz organized a Saturday protest outside LUMA Energy headquarters in Santurce that drew more than one hundred people.[2]
On the supply side, LUMA Energy identified a structural power generation deficit of between 700 and 850 megawatts on the Puerto Rico grid, Telemundo Puerto Rico reports.[3] Telemundo Puerto Rico also reports that the Energy Bureau ordered LUMA Energy, on a Tuesday it did not date, to complete technical studies for 800MW of temporary generation grid connections within eight weeks.[4]
Storage is moving through the same regulator. The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority submitted a regulatory approval request on October 16 for an amended battery storage agreement with EcoEléctrica BESS LLC, Metro Puerto Rico reports.[5] The San Juan Daily Star reports that PREPA filed a motion with the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau seeking approval of that amended EcoEléctrica BESS LLC battery agreement.[6]El Negociado de Energía de Puerto Rico aprobó el 30 de septiembre una tarifa residencial de electricidad récord de 33.86 centavos por kWh, efectiva en octubre, informa El Nuevo Día.[1]
