Los Pleneros de la Cresta released their new album, 'Puerto Rico abraza al mundo,' on Friday, Oct 23.[^1] The release was carried the same day by multiple island outlets, with a fourth confirming it within the week.[^2][^3][^4]

The record is the group's thank-you to the international audiences that followed the band on a worldwide tour with Bad Bunny.[^2][^5] Its premise is a swap: the group takes songs from six Latin American countries — Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Peru — and rebuilds them as plena, played with the traditional instruments of each country.[^6][^7][^8]

Much of it was cut on the road. Parts of the album were recorded in hotel rooms during the tour, the choirs were tracked at Abbey Road Studios in London, and the main vocals were laid down at Elysium Recording Studios in France.[^9][^10][^11]

Plena, the rhythm the band carries abroad, grew out of the experience of enslaved people and sugar workers on the island.[^12] An album titled 'Puerto Rico embraces the world,' built from that rhythm, runs the embrace in both directions.
