Two of the island's industries said on Nov 7 that rising electricity costs are pushing them toward closures, one of them the long-term senior care homes where some of our elders live out their days. Jonathan Morales Adorno, president of FICPRO, said long-term senior care homes in Puerto Rico are at risk of closing because of the rising cost of electricity.[1] On the same day, Sonia Navarro, president of the Puerto Rico Restaurant Owners Association, said up to 25% of the island's restaurants may close.[2] Neither leader gave a date for the closures they fear, or a count of the homes and restaurants already affected. What both warnings share is a single cause named out loud: the power bill. For a reader worried about where an elderly parent is cared for, the warning from FICPRO is the one to watch.
