The Humanities Faculty at the University of Puerto Rico's Río Piedras campus is holding its first 'Por la Escena' benefit gala to raise seed money for the faculty, organized by students, professors, staff and friends of the humanities community.[^1]

The evening will feature live music, a cocktail hour and appetizers made with local products by invited chefs Hugo Varona, Lucía Merino Casablanca and Juan José Cuevas, who will present a menu inspired by Puerto Rican cuisine.[^2] Artists and alumni Kairiana Núñez and Modesto Lacén will host the night.[^3]

Organizers said the fund will support cultural and academic programming at the College of Humanities.[^4] The read here is that a faculty turning to its own alumni and chefs for seed money says a good deal about where the campus stands right now, though the numbered facts give no figure for the goal or a date for the event.
