The Aibonito municipality estimates that more than 25,000 people attended the 15th Chicken Festival, which closed Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Public Plaza with the preparation of Puerto Rico's largest arroz con pollo.[1][2] More than 2,500 athletes ran the festival's 10K race and 2,254 completed the course.[3][4] The administration estimated that about 90% of the festival's economic benefit went to local merchants, nonprofits and entrepreneurs, and reported no incidents to police over the three days.[5][6] The closing dish was the edition's centerpiece: chef Alex Perichi, joined by Gary Rodriguez - the cook known as Chef Sin Papeles - led the preparation in a caldero nine feet wide and 18 inches deep.[7][8] Admission to the plaza was free.[9] Mayor Willie Alicea thanked municipal employees, sponsors, merchants, community organizations and volunteers, crediting the public's turnout and their collaboration for the edition's success.[10]
