El Puente's 8th climate walk draws about 1,000 in Río Piedras
The October 24 march returned to the organization's home base with a health fair, and its director pressed the point that the island's climate plan remains unapproved.
El Puente Puerto Rico held the 8th Puerto Rico Climate Walk in Río Piedras on October 24, and around 1,000 people took part.[1][2][3]
The day ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. around the organization's base on Calle Robles, with the march itself starting at 2 p.m.[4][5] The 2026 theme was holistic health, and the fair delivered on it with health clinics and vaccination stations.[6][7] Students who participated earned five green contact hours under the program tied to Law 152 of 2019, which created Climate Change Education Day.[8][9] The walk has been organized since 2016.[10]
The walk returned to Río Piedras after the seventh edition was held in Mayagüez in 2025.[11] Director Federico Cintrón Moscoso pointed to the gap the march was protesting: the climate plan ordered by Law 33-2019 was delivered to the Legislature in 2024 and remains unapproved.[12][13][14]
El Puente's own headquarters doubles as a cooling center during heat advisories, runs on solar panels, and will add water cisterns funded through a Hispanic Federation grant.[15][16][17]El Puente Puerto Rico celebró la 8va Caminata Climática de Puerto Rico en Río Piedras el 24 de octubre, y cerca de 1,000 personas participaron.[1][2][3]
